Benja-mini – The Shohin with Attitude
Botanical Name: Ficus benjamina
Common Name: Weeping Fig
Story of the Tree
Meet Benja-mini—a petite but determined shohin ficus, started in 2021 from a simple cutting off a garden store plant. While Ficus benjamina may be easy to find, it’s proven to be one of the least cooperative when it comes to traditional bonsai techniques.
As a tropical species, it demands warm temperatures and lives indoors year-round—happily soaking up sun on a bright windowsill.
To maintain its elegant cascade shape, the tree requires constant attention: wire is applied, carefully monitored for a few weeks, then removed and reapplied in the opposite direction to avoid scarring. It’s a slow, deliberate process that reflects the patience and creativity required of shohin styling.
Small in size, Benja-mini brings big personality to the display.
