Blazing Pink

Botanical Name: Bougainvillea spectabilis

Common Name: Pink Bougainvillea

Story of the Tree

This bougainvillea was urban collected in 2015 by Roy Nagatoshi of Fuji Bonsai Nursery in Sylmar, California — taken from his brother's hedge. I acquired it in January 2026, and it arrived with blazing pink color and striking bright white bark.

The contrast is the whole story: white bark, neon green foliage, and commanding hot pink bracts all at once. Worth noting — those hot pink "flowers" are actually modified leaves called bracts. The true flower is the tiny white blossom tucked inside.

This summer I plan to transplant it into a shallower glazed pot to continue its development.
