Chinese Elm – A Tree Divided, A Journey Doubled
Botanical Name: Ulmus parvifolia
Common Name: Chinese Elm
Story of the Tree
This Chinese Elm was originally acquired from Groveway Bonsai seven years ago, as a young tree with a double trunk growing in a one-gallon pot.
Rather than treat the trunks as a flaw or compromise, Ray saw an opportunity. Four years ago, he performed a successful air layering, carefully dividing the tree into two independent bonsai—each with its own future.
Now in development, this tree reflects the power of thoughtful intervention—where a single tree became two, and where one idea led to twice the potential.
