Four Inches from Mr. Ishi
Botanical Name: Juniperus chinensis 'Itoigawa'
Common Name: Itoigawa Juniper
Story of the Tree
In 1988 I bought this tree from Mr. Ishi — a well-known southern California bonsai man celebrated for his grafting work. At the time it was just four inches tall. The Itoigawa foliage had been grafted onto a San Jose root base, a technique Mr. Ishi was known for.
Over the years it has been trained in the slant style, now standing at 32 inches.
