From the Tehachapis
Botanical Name: Juniperus californicus
Common Name: California Juniper
Story of the Tree
This California Juniper is over 250 years old. Glen Lynch of Petaluma collected it from the Tehachapi Mountains in 1999, and it came into my care in 2020.
Working with a tree this ancient is a privilege. Its character conjures the dry, high-altitude habitat it came from — windswept, sun-baked, enduring. The goal has always been to honor that wild mountain image, not impose something foreign on it.
A distinguished group of bonsai practitioners have helped shape its current form: Kathy Shaner, Steve Iwaki, and Yannik Kiggen have all contributed along the way.
