Hawthorn – A Tree with Quiet Provenance
Botanical Name: Crataegus
Common Name: Hawthorn
Story of the Tree
This Hawthorn has been in bonsai training since around 1985, carrying with it the slow, deliberate development that only time can provide.
Steve acquired the tree in 2019 from Gene Lynch, a well-respected figure in the bonsai community. It is now planted in a glazed pot by Jim Barrett, another name closely tied to American bonsai history.
The tree’s gentle form, aged bark, and quiet maturity reflect the hands that have shaped it—and the patience that continues to guide it forward. It is a tree with lineage, presence, and grace, rooted in decades of thoughtful care.
