Hinoki Cypress – The Sister Tree

Botanical Name: Chamaecyparis obtusa

Common Name: Hinoki Cypress

Story of the Tree

I originally had a Hinoki that I just loved. It was one of my father-in-law's trees and I cared for it from around 1986. Then around 2002 that tree started looking poorly. I repotted it and kept watching it closely and finally decided it was gone.

I felt so bad and then remembered I had a second one that was almost the same but didn't have the twisting trunk at the base.

So, over the years I've been styling this tree and beginning to love it as much as it's sister tree. My goal is to settle on which side I like as the front.

Right now the tree is not exactly styled as I'm hoping. Hinoki are one of my favorite species so I'm glad I still had this one in my collection.
