Incense Cedar – Survivor of the Sierra
Botanical Name: Calocedrus decurrens
Common Name: Incense Cedar
Story of the Tree
This Incense Cedar was collected in 2001 from a Lake Tahoe home—with permission—and has been trained as a bonsai since 2006.
Over the years, it has been wired and rewired, slowly shaped through time. Jin and shari were added to reflect the tree’s rugged origin, and to tell the story of survival, not just style.
The artist’s goal has always been clear:
To evoke the beauty of a High Sierra tree—weathered by winter cold, shaped by mountain winds, and defined by the slow, unrelenting passage of time.
This tree doesn’t just resemble the Sierra—it remembers it.
