Japanese Winterberry – A Promise of Red
Botanical Name: Ilex serrata
Common Name: Japanese Winterberry
Story of the Tree
This Japanese Winterberry has been in bonsai training for 10 years, but its full history spans over three decades.
Five years ago, it was gifted by John and Sandy Planting, longtime members of the Kusamura Bonsai Club. At the time, the tree was in a much smaller pot, and had yet to show its full potential.
Now, for the first time, it has bloomed—a quiet milestone, marking the arrival of what promises to be a display of bright red berries later in the year.
The tree stands not only as a reflection of careful tending, but as a symbol of gratitude, growth, and the quiet joy of watching something finally come into its own.
