Scots Pine – From Cascade to Memory

Botanical Name: Pinus sylvestris

Common Name: Scots Pine

Story of the Tree

This pine was originally one of Buichi Nakata, my father-in-law. I started caring for the tree in 1986.

It was originally styled as a full cascade. I kept it in that style until 2003 when I wondered how it might look if I planted it more upright.

I wish I had a good photo of the tree as a cascade, but if you can imaging all the foliage that is now at the top basically swooping down below the pot, you might get an idea.

I feel it is a Scots Pine due to the candles and cones it forms. Whenever I look at this tree I remember it as a cascade and don't think I could ever go back to that style after so many years.
