Shimpaku Juniper – A Journey in Two Acts

Botanical Name: Juniperus chinensis sargentii

Common Name: Shimpaku Juniper

Story of the Tree

This Shimpaku Juniper was purchased at the Kusamura Bonsai Club annual show in 2000, marking the beginning of its long and quiet development under Rita’s care.

Over two decades later, in 2023, Rita traveled to Japan, where she selected a new pot for the tree—pairing its maturity with a vessel chosen from the art’s country of origin. On the same trip, she also acquired the Japanese mud house that now appears as an accent in this display, deepening the cultural harmony of the scene.

Paired with a scroll, this display reflects both the rootedness of a long-held tree and the inspiration gathered from travels abroad. A quiet story of time, growth, and returning to source.
